What’s Pouring: Yellowstone launches Single Malt Whiskey plus Sagamore Spirit, Bluegrass Distillers and The Quiet Man Irish Whiskey

Yellowstone American Single Malt Whiskey to Launch This Spring

Yellowstone American Single Malt Whiskey – the newest full-time member of the Yellowstone brand family and the latest inspiration from Limestone Branch Distillery Master Distiller Stephen Beam – is set to hit retail shelves this spring. Aged four years and bottled at 108 proof (54% ABV), Yellowstone American Single Malt Whiskey will be available nationwide starting in March at a suggested retail price of $54.99.

Yellowstone American Single Malt Whiskey boasts a 100% barley malt mash bill, which yields tasting notes that are a unique departure from its sister-spirit, Yellowstone Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

Consumers of Yellowstone American Single Malt can expect a nose of cereal malt and honey, with a hint of peach blossom; a sweet, medium body with notes of honey, pear, stone fruit and dates; and a finish that contains notes of oak, with hints of cinnamon and English Walnuts.

“I’m proud of the success Yellowstone Select Bourbon has enjoyed since 2015 when I introduced my take on my family’s historic brand,” said Beam. “And I’m proud to once again continue my family’s tradition of innovation with the launch of Yellowstone American Single Malt. This is a brand-new category of American whiskey, and our offering is sure to become a favorite among Yellowstone Bourbon fans and fans of American Single Malt Whiskeys alike.”

Packaging of Yellowstone American Single Malt includes a more design-forward label featuring the brand’s iconic Lower Falls artwork and a more prominent version of the Yellowstone brand name, as well as blue top-wrap to differentiate Yellowstone American Single Malt from other Yellowstone variants.

Sagamore Spirits releases latest Reserve Series: 8-Year-Old Rye

Sagamore Spirit announced in early February it is set to release its limited-edition Sagamore Spirit Reserve Series 8-Year-Old Rye Whiskey.

Aged in new charred American white oak barrels for eight years, this complex spirit brings forth dried cherries, clove, and smoked vanilla on the nose and flavors of candied ginger, sweet orange, molasses, and nut brittle for a bold palate that leaves a lasting finish. These indulgent flavors come together in a balanced, versatile, yet remarkably approachable 111.4-proof rye that can be savored neat, on the rocks or as the base for a warming seasonal cocktail.

“Our 8-Year-Old Rye Whiskey comes from some of the first liquid we put into barrels and set us on the path to where we are today,” said Brian Treacy, Sagamore Spirit’s co-founder and president. “More time in a barrel doesn’t always translate to better whiskey, but this release shows what can come from careful, expert aging and thoughtful blending. The patience and care our distilling team took with this release dating back over eight years ago set the blueprint for the whiskies that would follow.”

The new release marks the first time Sagamore Spirit 8-Year-Old Rye Whiskey will be available throughout Sagamore Spirit’s entire domestic distribution footprint. Sagamore Spirit Reserve Series 8-Year-Old Rye Whiskey will be available beginning in March in 750ml bottles at a suggested retail price $79 .

Bluegrass Distillers officially broke ground on its new Kentucky home

Craft bourbon brand Bluegrass Distillers officially broke ground in February on its new $8 million distillery on the historic Elkwood Farm property in Midway.

The Elkwood Farm property was purchased in 2020. The Elkwood Mansion was built in 1835 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The new location, expected to open this fall, will include a 36-inch column still and six 18,000-gallon fermentation tanks with room for future growth, as well as barrel warehouses, a bottling line, tasting room, visitor center and event space.

“We are thrilled to break ground on our new distillery in Midway,” said Bluegrass Distillers co-owner Sam Rock. “This new, best-of-class facility will allow us to massively expand production of our spirits and grow our reach while creating jobs and contributing to the local economy.

“Bluegrass has been distilling for nine years, and the release of Elkwood Reserve exemplifies the premium bourbons we will be showcasing with our complete grain-to-glass experience at Elkwood Farm,” added co-owner Ben Franzini. “Our team’s experience paired with the state-of-the-art equipment and facilities we are building will allow us to take everything we do to the next level.”

Once open, the distillery will increase Bluegrass Distillers’ capacity by over 100 times to meet growing demand and facilitate contract distilling and a bottling operation. Opened in Lexington in 2013, Bluegrass Distillers’ products include Kentucky straight blue corn bourbon, Kentucky straight wheated bourbon, five rye whiskies and seasonal products.
